The Tamang Society of America has already announced that its Annual General Assembly will be held on August 22, 2026, as decided by the Executive Committee. Given this, and in connection with a special general assembly held on August 8, 2026 under the leadership of the suspended General Secretary, this press release is being issued to make public the organization’s official position and decision on the matter.

The Executive Committee holds that the decisions made at the so called special general assembly, which was reportedly attended by only 25 members out of the Tamang Society of America’s current 601 general members, are not valid as official or institutional decisions of the organization. The Executive Committee also concluded that this activity caused serious harm to institutional discipline, dignity, and community unity.

Meeting on August 9, 2026, the Executive Committee decided by a two thirds majority, under Article 15.3 of the Society’s constitution, to fully remove the following officeholders from their positions. This press release formally announces that decision:

  • Suspended General Secretary Chandani Lama
  • Women’s Secretary Soniya Lama (Lhamu Dolma)
  • Joint Treasurer Niru Tara Yonjan

It is also announced that advisors Subash Lama, B.R. Lama, Sirjana Syangtan, and Luisang Waiba have been removed from their advisory positions. They were found to have directly taken part in the assembly organized under Chandani Lama’s leadership and to have harmed institutional dignity and the unity of the Society and community.

The Tamang Society of America remains committed to the organization’s constitution, bylaws, institutional dignity, transparency, unity, and the overall welfare of the community.

Rising above any individual or group interests, we express our commitment to conducting all future activities of the organization in a lawful, responsible, and orderly manner, while giving top priority to the dignity of the organization and the shared interests of the community.

We sincerely ask all members and the community to maintain mutual respect, restraint, and unity, and to place their trust in the organization’s official announcements and decisions.
