Maiya Tamang, a respected community leader, current advisor, and former secretary of the Tamang Society of America (TSA), has been appointed as the Vice President of the Federation of Indigenous Women of Nepal in America.

The announcement was made during a heartfelt event that also celebrated her 65th birthday. Surrounded by the federation’s president, executive board members, and lifetime members, the celebration was filled with tributes and well-wishes in honor of her achievements.

This recognition highlights Maiya Tamang’s enduring commitment to cultural advocacy, women’s empowerment, and community leadership. With decades of service to both the Tamang and broader indigenous Nepali communities in the U.S., her new role as Vice President strengthens her mission to uplift and unite indigenous women through representation, collaboration, and cultural preservation.

Tamang Society of America Implements Policy to Uphold the Personal Integrity and Safety of Executive Members

New York, May 7, 2025 — The Tamang Society of America has formally enacted a rule aimed at protecting the privacy, safety, and dignity of its executive board members. The rule emphasizes that any individual who deliberately interferes in the personal affairs of executive members or acts in a way that undermines their personal integrity will face disciplinary consequences.

According to the statement released by the executive committee, violations may result in internal actions such as fines or suspensions. In more serious cases, the matter could be escalated to law enforcement or legal authorities in accordance with applicable laws.

“This step ensures our board members can serve the community without fear of personal intrusion, defamation, or harassment,” said Tul B. Tamang, President of the Tamang Society of America. “We must protect the leadership so they can focus on serving our people with dignity and confidence.”

Rule Title: Safeguarding the Personal Matters and Integrity of Executive Board Members

Rule Statement:

Any individual who deliberately interferes in the personal matters of any executive member of the Tamang Society of America, or engages in actions that harm their personal dignity, reputation, or safety, shall be subject to internal disciplinary measures, including but not limited to fines. In serious cases, the matter may be reported to relevant governmental authorities for legal action in accordance with applicable laws.

Rationale:

This rule is intended to protect the personal rights and integrity of executive members, ensuring they can serve the community without fear of personal intrusion, defamation, or harassment.

The rule highlights the Society’s dedication to upholding a respectful environment where leaders are shielded from personal attacks, and the focus remains on community development and unity.

Members are encouraged to review this policy and cooperate fully in maintaining the standards set forth by the organization.

The Tamang Society of America (TSA) warmly invites all community members, friends, and well-wishers to join us for the Buddha Jayanti Celebration on Saturday, May 17, 2025, from 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM at 41-01 75th Street, Elmhurst, NY 11373.
We are blessed to announce that the event will be held under the spiritual guidance of Dungzin Rinpoche and other esteemed Lama Gurus, who will lead the puja, prayers, Buddhist teachings, and meditation sessions.

This sacred event honors the birth, enlightenment, and passing of Lord Buddha.

The program will feature puja (prayers), Buddhist teachings, meditation sessions, and a community gathering dedicated to spreading the message of peace, compassion, and wisdom. It will be a moment for reflection, spiritual growth, and strengthening our community ties through Buddha’s timeless teachings.
